Pawtucket Credit Union (PCU) has the following employment opportunities:
Title: External Mortgage Originator - Southeast Massachusetts
Job Category: Full-Time
Description: Cultivate existing and develop, maintain and follow up on new sources of mortgage loan business.
1. Responsible for mortgage loan business development and relationship management with current and potential members, as well as, real estate brokers, builders, associated trade organizations and community groups. Represent the Credit Union in industry and professional associations, community organizations, local business groups, etc., and promote the Credit Union's products and favorable image.
2. Conduct loan interviews to formalize specific loan requests resulting from outside sales efforts. Explain policies, products, offer suggestions. Ensure application is complete and all information is entered according to the required format. Provide required federal disclosure to applicants; collect fees due at application. Effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, members, and the general public in face-to-face and telephone contact.
3. Ability to solve practical problems with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
4. Initiate preliminary processing of completed application, in preparation for underwriting process. Prepare requests for verification of employment, credit, deposits and rental history; initiate credit investigation process.
5. Complete preliminary analysis and evaluation of loan request according to applicable underwriting guidelines in effect. Compute preliminary expense-to income ratios, evaluate credit information, and make preliminary recommendation to underwriting.
6. Provide follow-up support to underwriting and/or processing. Contact applicant, broker and other sources to obtain additional information, clarification, and/or documentation needed to facilitate final underwriting decision.
7. Answer in-person and telephone inquires from prospective applicants and brokers concerning product availability, lending policies and rates. Provide advice and schedule appointments for interviews.
8. Participate in closing when necessary.
9. As required, train new outside originators in business development techniques so as to ensure consistency and continuity in these efforts.
10. Ability to work flexible hours on a regular basis with mandatory availability on weekends and as needed to satisfy member/business associates demands and work volume.
11. Use knowledge of compliance and regulations in day-to-day activities. Maintain knowledge of trends and developments in the local real estate market, as well as the changing rules and regulations pertaining to mortgages.

The work environment described here is representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job: General office/Banking environment. The equipment used is general office bank equipment and PC.
High school diploma required; undergraduate degree or some college work strongly preferred.
At least two years successful experience in sales or closely related business field required; strongly prefer mortgage lending experience.
Strong PC proficiency.
Excellent oral and written communication skills, especially in finding, building and maintaining productive account relationships.
Capable of exercising consistently good judgment.
Ability to work well under pressure to meet deadlines and demand
Regular travel required
Must have valid driver's license and insured vehicle
Bi-lingual helpful.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
